4 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 package active dry yeast
3 tablespoons flax seed ground or whole
1 ¾ cups warm water

In a large bowl combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle in yeast and wait until mixture bubbles. Add salt and the flax seed; stir. Gradually add whole-wheat flour until dough is easy to handle. (Whole wheat bread rises better if it is not too dry.)
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Place in oiled bowl turn oiled side of dough up and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size about 1 hour.
